Bruce Bagley successfully lays out the events of the Colombian drug trafficking and the Colombian cartels. While examining his sources through footnotes, one can see that he draws his sources from reliable websites. He does an excellent job at breaking up the article into sections, pertaining to their subject matter. He provides a full scale approach to the war on drugs, providing the most background information out of all the other sources I found. He does a good job at tying in foreign policy by taking about the interactions because the United States and Latin America.

This primary source is one of the best sources I found to describe the war on drugs. It is a transcribed speech delivered by Ronald Reagan discussing the joint statement by himself and Belisario Betancur. Within the speech, Reagan discusses the dangers that drug abuse and trafficking have caused to both the United States, Colombia, as well as the rest of the western hemisphere, and the world. He mentions that they both agreed to take certain steps to fight the production, trafficking, and demand of illicit narcotics. Both nations agree that the drug problem is causing issues both on the health and the well-being of not only the users, but also society as a whole. It disrupts the morality, and is present among younger generations. This speech is so important because it shows how both nations were making the war on drugs an important issue that needs to be solved on both sides. Focusing on the demand is crucial when trying to fix the drug problem, and is best done through rehabilitative measures, like Reagan mentions.
